On March 7, the NAACP MSP Branch and Atlantic Black Box will present a performance by Antonio Rocha titled "The Malaga Ship: A Story of Maine and the Middle Passage" at the Maine State Prison. This event aims to provide incarcerated audiences with a powerful exploration of the historical connections between Maine and the transatlantic slave trade. Through his storytelling, Rocha will illuminate the narratives often overlooked in mainstream discussions about history and resilience. The performance seeks to engage the audience in meaningful reflection on themes of freedom, identity, and the enduring impact of the past. This collaboration highlights the importance of art and storytelling as tools for education and healing among individuals experiencing incarceration.
